Philadelphia Union announced today that they have signed midfielder Sanders Ngabo from Lyngby Boldklub to a two-year contract, beginning in 2024, with a club option for 2026 and 2027.
The Danish youth international will be added to the Union’s active roster following receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa and will occupy an international roster slot.
“Sanders is a young, promising midfielder with a strong potential to do well in our system,” said Philadelphia Union Sporting Director, Ernst Tanner. “Once rated a top Danish talent, we believe he’ll have the resources and direction needed to succeed and flourish in this environment. We look forward to welcoming him to the team and watching him develop.”
Ngabo, 19, comes to Philadelphia from the Danish Superliga, Denmark’s first-tier league, where he played for Lyngby Boldklub. During his time at Lyngby, he made 29 appearances, registering two assists and scoring one goal. Ngabo's journey began at Sundby BK before moving to Lyngby's youth academy in 2021. He progressed from the U19 squad to the senior team in the Danish first division, making his professional debut in a match against Nykøbing on July 25, 2021. On August 7, 2021, he signed a three-year contract with Lyngby, and in his debut season, he played a key role in their second-place finish, securing promotion to the Danish Superliga.
Internationally, Ngabo has earned four caps for Denmark’s U19 Youth National Team and two appearances for the U18 squad. His debut for the U19’s came on March 29, 2022, coming in as a substitute in a 3-3 draw against Spain’s U19 team in a UEFA EURO U19 Championship Qualifier match. Earlier this month, Ngabo was called into Denmark’s U20 National Team for the first time in his career.
