Preparations for this weekend’s 2nd annual River Cup are set to be ramped up on Wednesday afternoon when representatives from both the Philadelphia Union and the Sons of Ben go face to face in a special press conference.
Nick Sakiewicz, the club’s CEO and Operating Partner who wore Union colors in the inaugural 2011 event, will join up with Sons of Ben River Cup captain Corey Furlan as the two promote Sunday’s event, which it is hoped will raise thousands of dollars for the Philadelphia Union Foundation.
The River Cup pits the soccer abilities of the Philadelphia Union’s front office and technical staff against those of official supporters group the Sons of Ben in an annual charity match, with last year’s event generating more than $20,000 for the club’s official charity which provides a range of opportunities for children in the local community.
You can join them for kick-off at 6pm on Sunday by purchasing a ticket priced at just $10, available from the PPL Park box office during business hours this week and during the Union’s MLS fixture with Real Salt Lake on Friday evening.
