After helping Philadelphia Union pick up its fourth-consecutive victory, center back Jakob Glesnes has been named to the MLS Team of the Week.
Glesnes helped the Boys in Blue collect their ninth clean sheet of 2022 with strong defensive play to earn a 1-0 win at Orlando City SC on Saturday. The Norwegian international had nine defensive clearances plus an interception and won tackle in the road victory and played a key role in the game-winning goal. With Kai Wagner sending in a strong cross from a corner kick, Glesnes was the first to the ball and flicked a header into the six-yard-box where Daniel Gazdag was positioned with Orlando City’s Ruan and the keeper, Pedro Gallese. Seeing the ball heading his way, the Hungarian raised his leg and flicked it in for the advantage on the road.
The center back is the ninth different member of the Union to earn the league's weekly honor, joining teammates Andre Blake, Jack Elliott, Julian Carranza, Daniel Gazdag, Nathan Harriel, Kai Wagner, Jose Martinez and Alejandro Bedoya.
