Jose Martinez put on a spectacular performance that has been rewarded with an inclusion on the MLS Team of the Week.
Playing on national television against New York City FC, El Brujo dominated the midfield with hustle plays, bicycle kick passes and memorable tackles. On the defensive side, Martinez led the team with four interceptions and added two tackles while conceding no fouls. El Brujo saved his best play for the dying moments of the match, having a go from long range that crashed off Cory Burke and into the back of the net to push the Boys in Clue into first place.
The Venezuelan midfielder is the seventh different member of the Union to earn the league's weekly honor, joining teammates Andre Blake, Jack Elliott, Julian Carranza, Daniel Gazdag, Nathan Harriel and Kai Wagner.
Martinez and the rest of the Union face a quick turnaround with a Wednesday night road trip against the Chicago Fire. Kick off is set for 8 p.m. ET with coverage on PHL17 and PhiladelphiaUnion.com.
