Philadelphia Union Academy forward David Vazquez has extended his stay at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia as the United States has secured its spot into the Knockout Rounds.
Vazquez has appeared in both matches for Head Coach Gonzalo Segares getting the start for the Stars and Stripes in their opener against South Korea which the United States won by a 3-1 margin. Against Burkina Faso, Vazquez entered in the second half and helped see out the result that clinched the United States its spot into the next round and became the fifth time the U.S. has won its first two matches at the U-17 World Cup.
Next, the U.S. will play for the top spot in Group E on Saturday, Nov. 18 vs. France at 7 a.m. ET (FS1, Telemundo). The USA and France are guaranteed to finish first and second in the group after France defeated Korea Republic 1-0 in the second Group E match of the day. The top two teams in each of the six groups, as well as the four best third-place teams, advance to the knockout stage of the competition.
