Philadelphia Union Academy forward Diego Rocio has received an international call-up for Mexico's U-18 Youth National Team.
Rocio helped lead the Union Academy U-17 squad to its second-consecutive Generation adidas Cup championship that saw him named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for his knockout round performances. Rocio led the team with five goals in the knockouts, with a brace in the second half against Croatian side HNK Split to see the Union win by a 4-2 scoreline. The following day the Union advanced to their second-straight U-17 final after Rocio scored twice against Brazilian side, CF Flamengo.
In the 2024 GA Cup Final, Rocio again around the goal, scoring his fifth of the event. After forcing a turnover in LA Galaxy’s defensive third of the pitch, Cavan Sullivan hit a cross into the box that saw a half clearance from a defender. Rocio hustled quickly to intercept the ball and hit a blast that snuck under the keeper for the 1-0 lead.
In addition to finishing runner-up for the golden boot, Rocio was named to the tournament's Best XI alongside teammate Neil Pierre.
