Philadelphia Union Academy's U16 squad continued its historic first season with a resounding start to their run at MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs with a 7-1 victory over New England Football FC.
While the scoreline was heavily in the Union's favorite, Head Coach Guillermo Hamdan Zaragoza's side did so coming from behind has NEFC found the back of the net in the 26th minute. The Baby Snakes went to work and quickly found an equalizer two minutes after conceeding with a finish from Gabriel Wesseh. Daniel Dixon scored the first of three Union braces in the match in the first half, coverting his first goal in the 30th minute and a momentum shifting goal right before the halftime whistle.
The Union Academy side kept the offensive pressure on and was rewarded with Jax Benton finding the back of the net four minutes in to the final half. From there the Baby Snakes just continued to put on an offensive clinic as Wesseh and Benton capped off their games with a brace while Emmanuel Clark got a goal of his own to conclude the scoreline.
Philadelphia Union Academy will be back on the pitch at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro, Tenn., as they take on Miami Rush Kendall SC in the Round of 16 tomorrow afternoon. The Florida side booked its spot into the next round with a 2-1 victory over Sacramento United.
