Philadelphia Union today announced that the club has named Paul Killian as Head of Scouting, Academy & Professional Development. In his new role, Killian will lead scouting efforts, oversee the academy, and focus on player advancement within the Philadelphia Union pipeline.

“We are thrilled to have Paul head up the efforts for the developmental sector of our club,” said Jon Scheer, Director of Academy and Professional Development, Philadelphia Union. “We have no doubt that he will maintain our track record as one of the leaders in talent identification across MLS, but also improve upon our efficiency and processes to ensure we are able to continue to develop our pipeline of future Homegrowns for the Philadelphia Union.”

Prior to joining the Union, Killian served as an assistant coach at UCLA, contributing to the success of one of the nation's top collegiate soccer programs. In 2023 he assisted the team to the PAC 12 Championship. Killian's impressive coaching journey also includes nearly five years at the US Naval Academy, where he was the associate head coach. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the development of players and the overall success of the program, recruiting eight Patriot League major award honors and a number seven overall selection in the 2021 MLS draft. Killian began his coaching career as the assistant coach for the Baltimore Armour in the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy from 2017-2019.

Collegiately, Killian was a standout goalkeeper for Stevens Institute of Technology. A three-year starting keeper from 2011 to 2013, he held a record of 50-8-3 with 25 shutouts. His play earned him First Team All American and National Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
