Philadelphia Union Academy’s U17 squad clinched their spot for the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs on Thursday after a commanding 5-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls at Cabrini University’s Edith Robb Dixon Field in Wayne, Pa.
The Baby Snakes, needing all three points to book their ticket to the competition, dominated in the final third with goals from Devon Decorte (26’), Alex Perez (43’), Eddie Davis (45’ and 46’) and Diego Rocio (77’). After winning last year’s edition and the 2023 Generation adidas Cup, the squad is looking to add more silverware to their trophy case.
Before the Boys in Blue start preparations to defend their title, they close out regular season play this Saturday, June 3 at 10 a.m. ET against CF Montreal at YSC Sports in Wayne. Pa.
Thirty-two of the top teams from the regular season will compete to be crowned MLS NEXT champion in the four oldest age groups (U15, U16, U17, U19) from June 17-25, 2023 at the Toyota Soccer Center and MoneyGram Soccer Park in Dallas-Fort Worth.
