Haris Medunjanin Receives International Call-Up From Bosnia And Herzegovina National Team
Union midfielder to join side for two friendlies, including one against the United States
CHESTER, Pa. (Jan. 12, 2018) – Philadelphia Union today announced that midfielder Haris Medunjanin has been called up by the Bosnia and Herzegovina National Team ahead of two international friendlies.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is set to take on the United States in Carson, California on Sunday, January 28, followed by a match against Mexico in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday, January 31. He could potentially face Union teammate CJ Sapong in the contest against the Stars & Stripes, as the Philadelphia forward is currently with the USMNT for its annual January camp.
“It is always a pleasure to play for your country, especially when you get to play against the United States,” said Medunjanin. “The fact that Bosnia is looking at MLS shows that they appreciate the league because of its high level of soccer here in North America.”
Medunjanin has earned 56 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina, including a nod to the country’s roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He received his first international call-up as a member of the Union ahead of a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification match vs. Greece (June 9, 2017), where he did not appear during a 0-0 draw.
He was again called up ahead of another set of World Cup qualifiers, vs. Belgium (October 7, 2017) and at Estonia (October 10, 2017). He started at central attacking midfield vs. Belgium, his 55th cap, scoring his ninth international goal in the match, and he continued in the starting lineup at Estonia for cap number 56.
The Philadelphia Union begin the 2018 MLS season with a home contest against the New England Revolution on Saturday, March 3.
