US Soccer announced on Wednesday that Philadelphia Union Academy forward David Vazquez has been selected to represent the United States at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia.
Vazquez was named to the roster by Head Coach Gonzalo Segares after helping the Stars and Stripes secure their spot int the World Cup with a second place finish at the 2023 U-17 Concacaf Championships. Vazquez has made 10 appearances for the USMYNT squad with seven coming in the regional championship where he racked up four assists in 350 minutes of action.
The United States opens Group Stage play against South Korea on November 12th followed by Burkina Faso on November 15th and France on November 18th.

The U.S. will look to continue its successful legacy at this tournament in its record 18th appearance, tied with Brazil for the most all-time. A litany of senior U.S. Men’s National Team stars have launched their careers at the U-17 World Cup- 38 players who have represented the United States at this tournament have gone on to be capped by the full USMNT. Appearances in previous U-17 World Cups has played a key role in building the current USMNT player pool – 10 players on the USA’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad played in this age group tournament.
Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2006 are age-eligible for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Segares called up 17 players born in 2006, four born in 2007 and one born in 2008 – Charlotte FC forward Nimfasha Berchimas.
Vazquez will be joined by his teammate Sal Olivas who was named one of three alternates for the World Cup roster.
