Philadelphia Union Academy in conjunction with MLS NEXT, has announced its group opponents for the 2024 MLS NEXT Flex event that will take place May 10-14 at the Maryland Soccerplex.
The Union Academy will have three teams battling to secure their spots into the 2024 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs with the winner of each group securing their ticket to ultimate event held in Nashville, Tennessee, between June 15-23. The two-time defending Generation adidas Cup champion U-17s are paired up with Weston FC, Santa Barbara Soccer Club and the San Jose Earthquakes who finished as a semifinalist at the GA Cup.
The U-16s return from Europe looking to secure their first-ever trip to MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs with a group featuring Tampa Bay United, Bay Area Surf Soccer club and FC Westchester. The U-15s under the direction of Head Coach Henry Apaloo will face off against FC United, Tampa Bay United and Intercontinental FA.
MLS NEXT Flex is a qualifying competition for the 2024 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs. The U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-19 age groups will each have 64 teams battling to clinch a position in the postseason with their performance. The top seed in each group of four teams will punch their ticket to the season-culminating MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs. Participants in the event qualified and were seeded based on their performance in league matches from September 2023 to March 2024.
